The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople is the senior see of the Eastern Orthodox communion, whose bishop bears the title Ecumenical Patriarch and holds a primacy of honour (primus inter pares) among the heads of the autocephalous Churches. Seated historically at Constantinople (modern Istanbul), it oversees the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and many of the Orthodox communities of the diaspora.
