Sunday of the Fathers of the First Six Councils
Commemorated July 13 · July 19
The Sunday of the Fathers of the First Six Councils is a feast held by those following the Slavic Typikon on the Sunday falling from July 13 to 19 (the churches following the Typikon of the Great Church celebrate only the Fourth Ecumenical Council on this Sunday). The Holy Fathers of the Ecumenical Councils are honored by the Church because, based upon the preaching of the Apostles , they have established one faith for the Church. Guided by the grace of the Holy Spirit and accepted by the Church, the Ecumenical Councils are the highest canonical and dogmatic authority in the Church.
Troparion
Most glorious art Thou, O Christ our God, Who hast established our fathers upon the earth as beacons, and hast thereby guided us all to the true Faith! O greatly Compassionate One, glory be to Thee!
Kontakion
The preaching of the apostles and the dogmas of the fathers sealed the one Faith of the Church; and clad in the robe of truth woven of theology from on high, it setteth aright and glorifieth the great mystery of piety.
