The Russian Orthodox Church, governed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', is the largest of the autocephalous Eastern Orthodox Churches. The Moscow patriarchate was established in 1589; the Church traces its origins to the Baptism of Rus' in 988. The Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) is a self-governing part of the Moscow Patriarchate.
