An autocephalous Orthodox Church; autocephaly granted by Moscow (1951) and recognised by Constantinople (1998).

The Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia traces its life to the mission of Ss Cyril and Methodius and to the new-martyr bishop St Gorazd. It received autocephaly from the Moscow Patriarchate in 1951, recognised by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1998. A metropolia headed by the Metropolitan of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, it has sees in Prague and Prešov and follows the New (Revised Julian) Calendar.
